Frequently Asked Questions About Island Yoga

If you have questions about the classes available, when we are open, or whether or not you should register for a class due to age or injury, we encourage you to reach out to us and complete our injury questionnaire. For those still shy about learning about our processes and programs, we have included these frequently asked questions.

Q: When are you open?

Island Yoga is open seven days a week, and our studio space is available about 20 minutes before each class begins. Holidays and special circumstances may result in last-minute changes to the current schedule. To see our most current (including holiday) schedule, please visit our schedule page. This page is also the best way to find out about special classes, awesome workshops, events, and pop-up classes not seen on our paper schedule!

Q: Do you have mat rentals?

Mat rentals are available at Island Yoga for only $3. We also have plenty of other props and tools for you to use, and guidance is provided on their suggested usage, regardless of skill level.

Q: What are your yoga class and workshop rates?

Drop-in classes are $20 (excludes workshops and specialty classes, including Yin-storative with Thai Yoga Massage for dates listed on the schedule). We offer a variety of pricing options you can find here. There are also class passes for either 10 or 20 classes. They do not expire, and you can share and gift them with friends and family!

Q: What methods of payment do you accept?

We accept cash, credit cards, and checks when you are paying for your class. We take payment before class to ensure you get in at your class’ designated time, although we do ask you arrive 10-15 minutes before your scheduled class or workshop to get set up and settled in. You can also sign up online and register for your classes to guarantee you have a spot!

Q: Can I just drop into a class?

Drop-ins are welcome, but without a reservation, we cannot guarantee room in the class. In the rare event of a class cancellation or reschedule, we also wouldn’t have a way to notify you, and you may end up wasting time coming to the studio. We do ask you try to pre-register for the classes with your Mindbody account or simply texting Crystal at 803-420-2829.

Q: Do you offer heated classes?

We want everyone to feel welcome, so we have opted out of offering heated classes. All rooms are kept at comfortable, non-hot temperatures to allow anyone who wants to participate the chance to relax, reset, and restore at Island Yoga.

Q: Am I too old for yoga?

There is no age limit when considering our alignment-based, mindful offerings at Island Yoga. Our community is built on being inclusive and helping each other on our personal restoration journeys. Wherever you are is exactly where you are supposed to be, and every body and every day is a little different. Classes in our studio are designed to allow any skill level or age the opportunity to take yoga and gain all its incredible benefits. They call yoga a “practice” and not a “perfect” for good reason.

Q: I am a beginner! Which class is best for me?

Almost every yoga class we have available is accessible to students of varying experience levels, from first-time practitioner to seasoned yogi. Our teachers are more focused on mindful movements and alignment, not difficult or competitive poses. Rather than approaching yoga and mindful movement as a “workout,” our mission is to create a whole-body, holistic approach to wellness and feeling your absolute best.

We are incredibly well-equipped with yoga props and the best teachers on the island. All of our instructors are very familiar with injuries and conditions to help you feel awesome and find your Zen.

Q: What style of yoga should I start with, and what will I need to bring?

Most all our classes are available to beginners, including injured and senior bodies. Try not to get fixated on individual teachers and styles. Simply show up with an open heart, comfy clothes, and a positive attitude.

Q: Am I too injured for yoga?

Many students come here to rehabilitate from an injury or assist with a variety of conditions. Even so, we are NOT medical professionals, so please consult your physician to see if yoga is right for you before registering for our classes.

Q: Do you offer private yoga lessons?
