COVID-19 Yoga Class Precautions

Please pre-register for this class and all others!

Attendance is capped at 10 or less for all classes until further notice. Text Crystal at 803-420-2829 for assistance.

Until we are told otherwise, we will remain open with additional class times to ensure super small class sizes. Stay tuned as well for notices on small outdoor and beach yoga classes, and options to enjoy sessions remotely via Vimeo, Facebook and Facetime!

Support small business during this crisis. We wish to survive and thrive with and for you during this exceedingly difficult time.

Please know that our studio is sanitized, and your safety is our priority. We cannot survive without your support!

If a mandatory studio closure is put into effect, your class passes can still be used at a future date and time and we will even honor class passes at an off-site location of your choice.

Remember: if you purchased a 10 or 20 class pass, THEY DO NOT EXPIRE and all unlimited options will be extended appropriately, considering this crisis.

Any pre-paid sessions or workshops will be applied as a credit to your account and honored at a future date.

Island Yoga is happy to not only reserve the studio for a prop-free, hands-off practice, we will come to you at your choice location, be it the comfort of your own home or out in the fresh air.

Jennifer Brewer may also be booked through Crystal for reserved in-studio, in-home or your choice of outdoor location. We are honoring this for as long as the COVID-19 crisis lasts, and this will certainly be the case until the end of March.

It is our mission to be here with and for you now and for many, many years to come. Your attendance is important to our survival, and we will take whatever measures necessary to ensure your mental and physical health and wellness.

For the time being, we have added additional classes to allow for very small class sizes of 5 to 10 students, as well as express (45 minute) classes so you can get your practice in, quickly and safely.

We have also added a 6 AM and 6:15 PM class to ensure light attendance.

During this crisis, we are offering you 19 chances to enjoy small, clean group classes OR Crystal is happy to honor class passes by scheduling you and your group at your convenience.

What Island Yoga is Doing

Effective Monday, March 16th, class sizes will be limited to 10 people (or fewer) to help with social distancing.

At Island Yoga, the health of our clients and staff is our top priority. We are taking many precautions to prevent the spread of germs including sanitizing surfaces before and after classes, deep cleaning the bathroom, and suggesting you bring your own props (ours are clean, but just as an extra precaution).

Feel free to bring your own mat and towel to serve as a barrier between yourself and props. We will be offering individual towels for cleaning rental mats in between uses. Paper towels will be used in the bathrooms.

Please sign up in advance for classes. There will be a waitlist, once capacity has been hit. If you do not pre-register, you may not be able to take class.

Please bring your own mat to class.

We will still offer mat rentals, but please bring your own, if you can.

Extra cleaning is taking place before and after every class. We are doing everything we can to keep your studio a clean, safe place for you to be.

Our studio offerings are designed for those who have not taken a single class and those you have completed over a hundred. Every class is beginner-accessible, senior-friendly, and conducted at a comfortable, (non-hot) temperature.

It’s also the reason it’s called a “practice” and not a “perfect.” Yoga is about the journey, not the destination. The first step is taking the first step. Most of our clients started yoga after retirement and come from all walks of life, often with a number of conditions and injuries. The unsustainable “no pain, no gain” mindset comes from a place of expectation, goals, and results.  The yogic path is approaching wellness from a place of ease and grace and it is this way, lasting and meaningful change is created.  At Island Yoga, it is not about pushing harder or coming from a place of results-driven rewards: less is more especially when too much is counterproductive.

EVERY body is a yoga body and often the hardest part is simply showing up.  We provide you with everything you need at our studio, just come with comfy clothes, no expectations, and an open mind and heart.  We are open 7 days a week, 365 days a year to help you relax, reset and restore.

“I am too much of an overthinker for yoga!”

Overstimulation in Western culture can make it easy to become out of touch with the authentic self, and excessive mental chatter is all too common.  Yoga is a moving meditation, and with conscious breathwork, it becomes easier to approach life with greater calm and a sense of human connection.  Island Yoga can help.

If you have never stepped on the mat before, you’re in good company.  More often than not, your very first class is someone else’s very first class, too.  Everyone is focused on his or her own practice, nobody is judging you, and we have the very best teachers to help you with everything you need to know for a great session.  At Island Yoga, we strive to help you feel at home.

“How is yoga different than stretching at home or doing a gym workout?”

Yoga is not a workout: it’s a body-breath connection that is taken off the mat, with benefits enjoyed long after you practice. Looking and feeling fitter is a happy byproduct of yoga, but more importantly, it’s about creating sustainable change in your body and peace for your mind.

Whatever it is you love to do, yoga can help you do it for longer, with more balance, and with greater mental clarity. The yoga postures or asanas help us practice self-awareness in every other aspect of our lives. All of us favor one side of the body more than the other, and with regular practice, we mindfully rectify these imbalances.

Yoga teachers are not trainers: we have spent hours cultivating a craft that is specific to creating sustainable change which transcends the physical body. While a home practice is certainly beneficial, Island Yoga teachers are not only supremely qualified to helping you practice with good form, the integrity of our message is one of approaching the postures in loving kindness.

The studio is also not a gym: it’s a sacred, quiet space. At Island Yoga, there are no bright lights and loud music to bombard the senses. This is not a cute clothes competition or a place where newcomers feel excluded and confused by fast-paced, disconnected instructors.
